Co-written with Nelson, “Day of Reckoning” is a forceful call for change nodding to the rebellious late ‘60s and early ‘70s. The track’s lyrics also supply the album’s title: “Million voices whisper, getting louder when they sing / Million spirits waiting on a day of reckoning.” PRESS HERE to listen to “Day of Reckoning”.Haynes has also shared a behind-the-song video for the new single
Million Voices Whisper will be released November 1st digitally and on CD via Fantasy Records, with vinyl shipping on November 15th. PRESS HERE to pre-save and pre-order.
“Lukas, Jamey, and myself sang together on the Last Waltz tour a few years ago. I love the way our voices blend and wanted to get the three of us together to sing on this song,” shares Haynes. “Lukas played some amazing guitar as well. ‘Day of Reckoning’ is written about equality and civil rights in a modern light and can apply to many demographics. ‘It’s never too late to be free.’”
Million Voices Whisper, Warren’s first solo album in almost a decade and fourth solo album in his esteemed career catalog, includes the lead single “This Life As We Know It,” currently impacting at Triple A and Americana radio. The song is Warren’s universal message for embracing the positivity of change and looking forward through a new lens – one that starts within.
On the forthcoming 11-song set of soulful blues-rock, produced by Haynes and recorded at Power Station New England, Haynes sounds as energetic and focused as ever with the poignancy of his six-string mastery on full display. Accompanying Warren on the collection are members of his current all-star band including John Medeski on keyboards, longtime drummer Terence Higgins (of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band) and Gov’t Mule bassist Kevin Scott. In addition to Nelson and Johnson, the album features guest appearances from his Allman Brothers Band compatriot Derek Trucks, whose unmistakable guitar sound toughs up three tracks on the album that were co-produced with Haynes. A deluxe CD version of Million Voices Whisper will also be available featuring four bonus songs, including a new version of the Trucks-Haynes composition “Back Where I Started” featuring Warren on lead vocals and slide guitar and the power trio of Haynes, Nelson and Johnson covering the CSNY classic “Find The Cost of Freedom” into an extended version of “Day of Reckoning.” Full track listing for Million Voices Whisper below.
Haynes and his band, including Greg Osby on sax, are currently supporting the release of Million Voices Whisper with a 16-date fall headlining tour that kicked off last night in Fort Lauderdale. The Mule has since created a revered catalog over the past 30 years, including multiple Grammy nominations, leading them to be recognized as one of the most timeless, respected and active bands in the world whose spot amongst rock titans remains unshakable. Following a handful of solo live releases in 2003 and 2004, Haynes released his Grammy-nominated sophomore solo album, Man In Motion, in 2011 and then his third solo collection, Ashes & Dust, in 2015. Haynes also curates and hosts the Christmas Jam, an annual star-studded holiday charity show in his hometown of Asheville, North Carolina, which celebrates its 33rd event in 2024. As one of the most celebrated and longest-running live concerts in the U.S., the Christmas Jam has raised nearly $3 million for Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity, constructing over 50 homes, and helps the region’s housing needs through newer partner BeLoved Asheville.
