In an era where political landscapes are shifting towards more conservative ideologies, WE ARE FUGAZI FROM WASHINGTON D.C. emerges as a beacon of resistance and unity. This compelling film chronicles the iconic punk band Fugazi’s unwavering commitment to grassroots activism, radical anti-consumerism, and community building through their legendary $5 benefit concerts. These ideals, deeply rooted in defiance against corporatism, resonate with a new urgency in today’s socio-political climate.
Doc’n Roll Films is proud to announce a series of charity-supported screenings of WE ARE FUGAZI FROM WASHINGTON D.C. across the UK and Ireland. Each screening will not only celebrate the band’s enduring ethos but will also serve as a platform for social action. In the spirit of Fugazi’s community-first principles, all profits from these events will be donated to local food bank charities in each town, directly supporting those most affected by the growing inequality.
About the Film
Curated by Joe Gross, Jeff Krulik, and Joseph Pattisall, WE ARE FUGAZI FROM WASHINGTON D.C. marks 20 years since the band’s last live performance on November 4, 2002, at London’s Forum. This 96-minute film is a crowd-sourced collection of fan-recorded live performances and rare archival footage. Far from a conventional documentary, this “non-documentary” pays homage to Fugazi’s electric presence on stage, as seen through the lenses of their passionate fans. It’s a celebration not just of the band, but of the community and the ephemeral moments captured by the audiences themselves.
DOC’N ROLL’S HEAD OF PROGRAMMING COLM FORDE SAYS:
“By attending these screenings, audiences will not only engage with the powerful legacy of Fugazi but also contribute to a meaningful cause. Together, we can transform this musical cinematic experience into an act of solidarity, directly aiding those in need.”
