Will Wilde – Blues Is Still Alive – CD Review

Will Wilde – Blues Is Still Alive – CD Review

28th February 2025 0 By Jon Deaux

Will Wilde has returned with Blues Is Still Alive, an album so charged with bluesy energy that it practically sweats whisky and disappointment. From the moment you press play, Wilde’s harmonica punches you in the face like an angry ex who just found out you still use their Netflix account.

Now, I was fully prepared to give this album a casual listen while sipping a chamomile tea, but within seconds, Will Wilde’s harmonica absolutely drop-kicked me in the soul. Honestly, I haven’t felt this attacked by a musical instrument since my Year 9 recorder recital.

From the first note, Blues Is Still Alive grabs you by the lapels and drags you into a smoky, dimly lit bar where the drinks are strong, and so are the emotions. Wilde’s harmonica work is nothing short of outrageous—it screeches, it wails, it probably pays its own council tax. His vocals? So raw and powerful they could probably bench-press a Ford Fiesta. And the guitar? Dirtier than my internet search history.

The album storms through track after track with all the subtlety of a bull in a harmonica shop.

So, is blues still alive?

Not only is it alive, but it’s just stolen my wallet, my heart, and possibly my ability to enjoy any other genre. Will Wilde, you magnificent blues wizard, I am both in awe and slightly afraid.
