Bush Loaded: The Greatest Hits 1994-2023: Vinyl 2LP Review

Bush Loaded: The Greatest Hits 1994-2023: Vinyl 2LP Review

23rd November 2023 0 By Jon Deaux

Bush is a band from London that was formed way back in 1992 and I am totally unfamiliar with them.  I’m only aware of the vocalist Gavin Rossdale due to his collaboration with The Blue Man Group on the track The Current. So I had no preconceived ideas as to what to expect.

Crikey, it’s good. I don’t just mean a little bit, I mean it’s really fucking good. Doom, Sludge, Grunge and a healthy dose of incredible vocals.

Bush to my ears is the UK’s answer to Nirvana and that’s no bad thing. Bush has sold in excess of 20 million records and yet never made a dent on my radar. But it’s only in the last decade that I’ve come to appreciate this particular genre.  Loaded  has sent me on a deep Bush dive and I’m yet to find a bad album

The highlight track on this album is their take on The Beatles classic Come Together. It just blew me away. Their take on the iconic riff has given it a much heavier vibe due to its downtuned guitar. I’ll be upfront here dear reader, it’s the best cover I’ve heard of it.

Some ‘Greatest Hits’  records have at least one track you want to skip. But not on this album. (I haven’t skipped a single track).

What I’ve truly enjoyed about this compilation is that it’s in chronological order and contains a brand-new track in the shape of Nowhere To Go But Everywhere. There’s been a subtle progression in the band yet they’ve not strayed far from their winning formula.

I’ve loved every second of its 21 tracks. The vinyl sounds warm and vibrant and is a stunning press.

A rather lovely gatefold sleeve with a gorgeous glossy booklet featuring the lyrics and notes as to what albums the tracks are from.

If you’re like me and haven’t paid any attention to this band, this is a perfect place to start.
