Cher – It’s A Man’s World – Deluxe Vinyl (4LP) Review

For the 1st time since its initial release, The classic album It’s A Mans World by legendary artist Cher makes its debut appearance on vinyl, in a gorgeous-looking box set and a double LP of remixes from the same era.

The original album It’s A Man’s World appears spread over 4 sides of colored vinyl.The original CD sounded good. But the double LP version is otherworldly.

The bass on the opener Walking In Memphis is skull-crushing on headphones and continues throughout the UK version (14 tracks). Cranked on my hi-fi it hits you firmly in the chest. The stereo separation of each track is immense. Al the instruments are placed where they should be. Nothing louder than anything else. Of course, Cher is placed front and center and is incredible on this record.

her version of It’s A Man’s World is exceptional, and so is her version of The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore. Both have the Cher signature sultry delivery.

The remix album is heavy going as you can only listen to one song so many times one after the other before getting fed up, even if they are remixed. Saying that tho, it’s handy to have them all in one place especially as a lot of these are quite rare and available on vinyl for the 1st time. But I don’t think it’ll be an album you’ll keep going back to, unlike the original album.

The entire box is described as being remastered from the best available sources. I’ve no idea what those sources are, but they’re exceptional.

The numbered lithograph is nice and would look amazingly framed.

Despite the albums sounding great, the downside of this box is there are no liner notes, lyric sheets or printed inners. Yes, the albums are in glossy gatefold sleeves, but for a debut vinyl release, it would’ve been nice to be just that little bit more spoiled with a booklet. But that’s just a minor issue.

The albums do sound as good as they look. I’m a fan of this particular album, but to hear it analog is a proper experience.

Well worth adding to the collection. If you don’t fancy the deluxe box, you’ll be pleased to know there’s a double CD version.
