Chris Shiflett announces Willy Cobb as March tour support
1st February 2024Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett has announced Willy Cobb as support on his forthcoming headline tour in March, which concludes with a show at Londonâs Electric Ballroom on the 27th. Tickets are available here.
Â
Cobb says, “I remember being on the flight the first time I went across the pond, listening to one of Chris’ albums. It’s a full-circle moment for us to tour the UK together! I can’t wait to get over in March.”Â
Â
âWildâ Willy Cobbâs credentials are strong being the cousin of Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and musician Brent Cobb, who along with Jaren Johnston (frontman of The Cadillac Three and songwriter behind a dozen No.1 country hits) are producing Willyâs forthcoming music.
Â
In Cobbs own words, âIf you donât know me, Iâm a southern guy making alternative rock music. Iâm originally from Georgia but now live in Nashville, Tennessee, where Iâve been making music and playing shows for a while. Iâm influenced by 90âs grunge, but I like to add a southern twist. I love loud guitars, tattoos, eyeliner, and bands like Nirvana and Tame Impala.â
Â
The upcoming tour follows the release of Shiflettâs stellar third album Lost At Sea, which is out now on Snakefarm in the UK and features the latest single âWeigh You Downâ. Originally inspired by Shiflettâs wifeâs birthday, the song turned into a baritone guitar-driven rocker; upbeat and sweet.
Â
Shiflett says, âI canât wait to get back over to the UK and Ireland for another run of dates! Â The tour we did last spring was amazing, the best weâve ever done. The crowds were wild so I canât wait to see what itâll be like touring now that the record is out. Weâll mix in a few more new tunes in addition to the older stuff.â
Â
Revered as a modern-day guitar hero, the new album sees Shiflett splice up alt-country rock and guitar-driven grit with sharp songwriting and Americana undertones.
Â
Shiflett also recently launched a new video series called âShred with Shiftyâ where he interviews some of the guitar greats, delving into their most iconic solos and the art of playing guitar. Guests so far have included the likes of Nile Rogers, Alex Lifeson (Rush), Rivers Cuomo (Weezer), Brad Paisley and more. Head to Volume.com/shifty for more info.
Â
Although heâs used to playing big arenas globally, the punk veteran and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducteeâs previous UK tour was hugely triumphant; his transition to more intimate venues was seamless, resulting in equal magic, showing that being a great frontman is just another part of his already impressive CV.
