Jack J Hutchinson – Battles Launch Tour – Bannermans – Edinburgh – 1st May 2024
2nd May 2024Whenever I’m asked to visit the Scottish capital of Edinburgh and the venue Bannermans for All About The Rock, I find it hard to say no, especially when it’s to cover an amazing act on his album release tour. I am, of course referring to Jack J Hutchinson and the promotional tour for his latest record, Battles.
Jack hits the stage looking rather like a magician. It’s the same get-up he is wearing in the video for the current single, Love Is The Law.
There are many cool moments when you go see a rock god live and tonight was no exception. Many a story was told. Including being in a hotel room in L.A. thinking that he’d finally become a major rockstar. Just as the fireworks start, he opens the window to a sea of children in Mickey Mouse PJs. It turns out, his hotel is in the middle of Disneyland.
This led to an impromptu ‘Lion King’ moment on stage. Although I did promise not to mention it.
Obviously, with this being the Battles LP Launch Tour it’s no surprise that the album takes up the majority of the set. No bad thing at all as the album is an absolute beauty. Tracks such as Bullets, Don’t Let The Fuckers Get You Down, Constellations, and Road To Hell all translate decently to being played live. But the inclusion of such wonders as, The Hammer Falls, Down By The River, and the toe-tapper of Written In Stone was a pure delight.
The encore of Call Of The Wild was an incredible tune to finish a superb live set.
If you see the name Jack J Hutchinson coming through your town on tour and you fancy an evening of really good rock, buy a ticket and go see him. I highly recommend it.
