Kris Barras Band – The Caves – Edinburgh – 15th Feb 2023

It was colder than a witches tit in the Scottish capital, yet it was roasty toasty in The Caves.

The Kris Barras Band opened with an incendiary version of Hail Mary from the Divine and Dirty album. If you’ve been following Kris over the years, the last 3 albums have been progressively getting heavier and the new album, Death Valley Paradise is even heavier live.

Tracks such as Dead Horses, These Voices and Devil You Know were crazy heavy. I swear that if the audience were a little younger, there would#ve been a full-on mosh pit going on.

I’ve been lucky enough to see Kris several times and he just keeps getting explosively better. Wake Me When It’s Over was sublime. One of my favourite tracks from Lucky 13 (which happens to be one of Kris’s favourites from the same album) Heart On Your Sleeve was tinkered with to fit the much heavier set and it worked well. I sincerely hope he records this version.

Even the ‘ballad’ Wake Me When It’s Over was rockin’. Mr Barras’s voice was outstanding and the Freddy Mercuryesk call-and-response vocal play with the crowd enforced this. It’s hard to believe that by the date of this show, The Kris Barras Band has been on the road for 3 weeks and his voice is still top-notch.

This is the best I have seen the Kris Barras Band perform and that’s saying something as every show I’ve been to has been jaw dropping.

I highly recommend his albums and if you want to see a heavy blues band at the top of their game, go see the Kris Barras Band. It’ll be one of the best nights you’ll have with your clothes on.
