Lodestar – Zonen – CD Review

Lodestar – Zonen – CD Review

1st May 2024 0 By Jon Deaux

It’s been 27 years since Lodestar produced another album (this being their 2nd LP), thus, the burning question has to be, ‘Has it been worth the wait?’ Read on to find out.

Upon initial listening, there is plenty of immense Black Sabbath-type riffage along with a touch of Cathedral and a sprinkling of The Sword. Not a bad start.

Subsequent listens you still get the power and the glory of the bands mentioned above, but you also get a little something else. An almost warm and fuzzy feeling you get from wearing a Slanket. The 3rd single Flame is a prime example and just so happens to be my favorite on the album Zonen.

The album will satisfy many an itch musically (any other persistent itch may require a trip to the GP and may result in some topical cream/antibiotics)

To answer the question, it HAS been worth the wait,  however, I was expecting just a little bit more. The debut from Lodestar was refreshing, especially in a genre that consisted mainly of tripe.

However, to new fans of the Doom genre, especially fans of the bands Hundred Year Old Man and Hangmans’ Chair, you’ll get a kick out of it.
