Morbid Slaughter – Wicca

Morbid Slaughter – Wicca

25th May 2014 0 By Suzie Rottencrotch

Morbid Slaughter’s EP, Wicca, is a venture back into the late 80’s school of thrash/black metal. The music paints a picture of guys in jeans jackets, back patches, and high top sneakers head banging away. Their two song EP definitely tips it’s hat to seminal bands like Hellhammer, Sarcofago, and even Onslaught. It’s a cool mix of thrash inspired riffage with an underlining sinister tone. The vocal delivery is what is most interesting. It literally sounds like the frontman is whispering into your ear. At first listen it sounds almost hokey, but by the end of the 2nd song it leaves you feeling a little uncomfortable, which I’m sure is part of the desired effect.

The vocals used remind me of a character from one of the B horror legends Dario Argento or Lucio Fulci films. It definitely creates a creepy vibe over the Celtic Frost-like rhythms. Fans of Sodom, Onslaught, Sarcofago, and all the early black metal innovators will be into this – While generic outside the vocals, I enjoyed the EP and found myself wanting to hear more.. or maybe it was the little voice whispering secret messages to me..listen at your own risk.

SCORE – 6.5 out of 10
