Mordred: Fool’s Game, Solid Blue Vinyl LP Edition – Review

Mordred: Fool’s Game, Solid Blue Vinyl LP Edition – Review

29th April 2023 0 By Jon Deaux

For the first time since 1989, Mordred‘s debut album Fools Game FINALLY makes its way back onto vinyl as a stunning solid blue limited edition.

Scott Holderby 1992 Dynamo festival

I’m wondering if the choice of Blue was a nod to Scotts appearance at the 1992 Dynamo Festival.

To hear such tracks as Sever and Splice, The Artist and Shatter sound as sparkly as they should along with Thin Lizzy-inspired twin guitars on all tracks via Danny White and Jim Taffer along with the rumble of Art Liboons bass is outstanding.

Scott Holderby’s voice was ear-blistering, there was no other vocalist that sounded like him back in the day. As for drummer Gannon Hall, he’s a ridiculously technical thrash metal drummer only rivaling Death Angel drummer Andy Galleon and Testaments Loui Clemente.

This album also features Mordred‘s breakthrough single Everyday’s A Holiday as well as their timeless take on the Rick James classic, Super Freak. Both of which feature DJ Pause (who would later become a full member on subsequent albums).

The original pressings of this album can go for silly money so to finally get a limited edition colored vinyl is exceptional. Hats off to Dissonance for providing a record that sounds just as good as it looks.

This is a great slice of Bay Area Thrash and it’s a must-have in your collection, especially if you’re a fan of Defiance, Laaz Rocket, Metal Church, and Heathen

Fools Game sounds just as good now as it did back in 1989. It truly is the dogs bollocks.
I’m still wondering if the choice of blue was in honor of Scott’s appearance at the Dynamo festival back in 1992
