Motörhead – ‘The Löst Tapes’ The Collection Volumes 1-5 – CD Box Review

A Cassette

The millennials won’t understand the joy of tape trading. Either by snail mail or in person. They probably don’t even know what a cassette tape is to be fair.

I digress.

By popular demand, this collection of live recordings is finally now on CD after a brief stint as digital files only and a limited number of L.Ps. The encompasses shows from 1984 (with Wurzel and Pete Gill) to 2008 with the now legendary Download set.

Overall there are 8 discs of INCREDIBLE Motörhead music where the band was absolutely on fire.  These are just as good as the mighty No Sleep ’til Hammersmith live album and much better than the Clean Your Clock record.

Lemmy is on fine form with his banter at the crowd for not buying records (very tongue in cheek) on all shows, the incredible We Are The Road Crew on Volume 4 is blistering. One of my all-time favorite Motorhead tracks and a very good recording from 1984.

And then you have an impeccable version of Killed By Death from 1995, again another of my faves.
There is no bad track on these albums. Of course, you have the classics of Overkill and Ace Of Spades, but there’s also a rare performance of the track Shine from the album Another Perfect Day.

There is no bad concert in this box but for me, it’s the Live In Heilbronn disc with Motörhead performing as a 4 piece, this makes the set a worthy purchase.

Each album is housed in a gatefold sleeve which don’t give you much information but the cardboard sleeve that the CDs are stored in is fairly substantial.

The only negative I have is the lack of liner notes/booklet for each album but you are getting a sticker, so I guess it cancels out the negative. (NOT)

Let’s be honest tho, we’re not buying this collection for that, we’re buying it for the music and the joy of not just hearing Lemmy live again, but Motörhead firing on all cylinders, and dear reader, they are.
Score 9/10
