Seething Akira – Cancel Estate ALBUM REVIEW
10th November 2024 0 By Quinccy“Cancel estate” is Seething Akira‘s latest released album. The album was released October 25th, 2024. I’ve finally got around to throwing in my two cent in about the album and reviewing this (Guys why are you all releasing albums between September – November, calm down please my to do list can only be so long!). Seething Akira, hailing from Portsmouth (England) have a current member line up that consists of Kit Conrad (Vocals), Charlie Bowes (Vocals / Synths), Richard Ellis (Bass), Si Williams (Guitar), John Corney (Guitar) and Stu Radcliffe (Drums).
Unfortunately this year, I was unable to attend Radar festival however did have a few friends who mentioned Seething Akira to me from their performance during this event who had been very impressed. Curiosity got the better of me and off to the world of Spotify I went and found a few of their tracks – I really enjoyed them then and definitely enjoy this new release although it does feel the music audibly has changed but I can’t quiet put my finger on HOW exactly, that’s the more frustrating part.
First impressions from new release, starting with the first track “Ixnay” gave me that catchy, dance-y vibes. It is definitely high energy with a mix of both ‘rap’ and melodic vocals thrown into the mix. I really enjoyed it.
Progressing through the album the energy remains consistent, the catchy electronica elements going strong and the vocals remain varied throughout. Overall a generally good listen, would I listen to again – Yeah, I’d definitely give it another listen (I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t added a couple of tracks to my daily playlist).Notable tracks on this album are “Resilient“, “Sunflower Shadows“ and “How are things up north”. One thing I would like to comment on is the production quality of this album is superb there wasn’t one moment during listening to this album where I cringed or thought “my god that sounds off”, you know how it is sometimes even with “bigger” bands there’s sometimes a point where your face scrunches up and you think “my god that snare was off there…” can not fault the production quality on this one.
Overall, the album is chock full of catchy tracks with high-energy. If you’re a fan of similar bands such as Enter Shikari, Abandon All Ships, I See Stars, Hacktivist, Pendulum mixed in with a bit of The Prodigy you’ll absolutely adore this album. The experience was kind of like being on a really fast bike going through a sci-fi rave tunnel where when you emerge you’re left questioning a lot about what you’ve just gone through. I say this in a good way, if this can be taken in a good way – trust me this is meant to be a compliment. It’s inspired me to keep a watch out for the guys next shows, hopefully Manchester soon? Added to my “list of bands to see for 2025”.
