Tankard – For A Thousand Beers [40th Anniversary Deluxe] – 7CDs and 1DVD Box Review
9th February 2022Tankard is often considered one of the ‘Big Four’ of Teutonic thrash metal alongside Kreator, Destruction and Sodom.
These albums have been rescued by BMG from the deletion bin and remastered in all their glory and complete with bonus tracks on the CD versions where applicable.
Every album in this box is full on classic German thrash. Fun, brutal and mosh pit inducing.Unlike certain Thrash bands of this era Tankard haven’t tinkered or strayed to far from the path of full on heavy thrash.
I could wax lyrical about The Meaning Of Life being an absolute masterpiece and masterclass in German Thrash, as well as being my favorite album. The The Morning After LP featuring the classic Alien E.P or that the album Fat, Ugly and Live is a featured DVD in the box.
I could also mention the sturdy clamshell box the CDs are housed in, but that’s a given considering how many CDs you get along with the added bonus of a DVD.
The afore mentioned DVD is the jewel in the crown and showcases perfectly how good and tight there were as a live act. Especially the Dynamo show from 1987. Quite simply, it’s a wish I was there moment. This is a collection that will speak for itself.
With this insanely packed box set your tankard will be never be empty.
This is fun German thrash at it’s best.Score 9/10
