UK ECLECTIC ROCK CREW FONZY & COMPANY GIVES AATR AN EXCLUSIVE LOOK INTO THIER INFLUENCES

22nd April 2024 0 By Jon Deaux

FONZY AND COMPANY are back with a completely fresh sound, taking influence from contemporary artists such as Cheekface and Sports Team, as well as from distinctive icons like David Bowie, Pixies, and Talking Heads. F&C’s new sound is truly unique, lyrically focused, and experimental. The Brit Alt project will release their deeply captivating new single and video, Cinnamon Laces, which lands everywhere on Friday 26th April. With all of this in mind, we exclusively asked Fonzy to offer up the tracks that have greatly influenced the project’s sound:

“Pixies – Monkey Gone To Heaven

– Nobody does it quite like Pixies. A creepy show of obscure lyrics, dissonant guitar, and bipolaresque song moods with every track,  sounds like it shouldn’t work on paper. But there is a raw beauty captured in this sound that’s authentic and it’s greatly made its stamp on F&C’s new sound.

Cheekface – I Feel So Weird!

Whilst a fairly new band on the block, they’re a game changer with their approach to songwriting, melody and lyricism. Branded ‘Talk Rock’, what these guys don’t do in high octane vocal style, definitely make up for it in sass, uniqueness, and fantastic hooks. I am indeed a Cheek Freak.

David Bowie – Heroes

What the man did for music is nothing short of God tier. Heroes in particular definitely played a part for us, combining a blues esc scale and transforming it into a beautiful composition. Our new sound has often been compared to Bowie, we know we’re not worthy.

Green Day – Redundant

Definitely not Green Day’s most recognizable, but again another track that finds beauty in melancholy lyrics and melody which is what we’re all about. Green Day molded F&C throughout the back catalog and nothing has changed. Billy Joe is my spirit animal and has been for nearly 20 years. Masters.

The Distillers – The Hunger

Coral Fang is one of my favorite albums of all time. Whilst we do not recreate punk rock to its purest form, what we take from this is power, anger, and a raw beauty that can hit you in the face whilst simultaneously giving you a head rub.
