Venom – In Nomine Satanas (6CD Boxset) Review

21st September 2022 0 By Jon Deaux

Finally there is a career defining boxset of Black Metal originators VENOM and what an intense box In Nomine Satanas is. 71 tracks in total and a live DVD to boot.

Back in the day I had the VHS of 7th Date of Hell – Live at The Hammersmith Odeon, 1984 that I played so much that my video recorder chewed the bloody tape. Bloody machine was built like an absolute tank and it was a bastard to get the tape out of the top loading mechanism.. ANyway I digress. So to finally have a copy on DVD without the threat of a VHS machine wrecking it makes me very happy indeed.

The box encompasses the 5 (the 6th being a big bonus disc) albums by the original line up of Venom (Abaddon, Chronos and Mantis). Venom are one of those bands that is often overlooked as a bit of a joke, but without them Metallica, Slayer, Hellhammer (Celtic Frost) and Mayhem would sound like a very different animals.

These  albums have been remastered and still sound as brutal as ever. Even beautiful in places (the 19 minute opus At War With Satan and of course the intro to the  Eine Kleine Nacht Music album)

The 6th disc Sons Of Satan is a compilation of rare material. Including the original £50 demo and 1979 rehearsals along with many other additions.

To finally have Welcome To Hell, Black Metal At War With Satan Possessed and Eine Kleine Nachtmusik sounding the best they have in decades and in 1 handy package is blinding. The packaging is outstanding. All CDs and the DVD are in replica artwork sleeves which adds that really nice touch.
Aaaaaarrghh I bloody love Venom and so should you and your neighbors.
