5 Powerhouse Pop-Punk Albums of the Noughties
24th August 2016In this article I am going to take a look at the 5 albums released between 2000-2010 that I personally think are the best albums of the decade. I mean come on! Who doesn’t love a bit of pop-punk(except everyone else here at AATR)
- Jimmy Eat World – Bleed American.
Coming in at 5; this is an absolute masterpiece of an album. I am a huge Jimmy Eat World fan and this album is the one that got me hooked; the straight forward lyrics and aggressive composition get straight to the point and make it an absolute winner. It is one of 2 albums on this list that I can listen to from start to finish and enjoy every last second. And if Hear You Me doesn’t get you right in the feels then you’re not human.
Chosen Song: The Middle(did you expect anything else?)
- New Found Glory – Catalyst.
From start to finish this is an incredible, the 4th album from the Florida pop punk legends. They were one of the driving forces behind pop punk in the early 2000s and this album is testament to just how good they are. Every song is an anthem; every line is like a shot of adrenaline and every time I listen to it; it’s like the first time all over again. I love this album so much that I have the lead single ‘All Downhill From Here’ tattooed across my arm. If I was trapped on a desert island, this album would be coming with me.
Chosen Song: Doubt Full(Probably played through the conception of whoever will solve world hunger)
- My Chemical Romance – The Black Parade.
This album was simply incredible; it brings goosebumps to most and it is so very different from anything that MCR had released before. So much effort went into this album and the band took on totally different personas when promoting it. it clearly isn’t your standard pop-punk album and I’d argue that if it hadn’t been for American Idiot this may have had a much bigger impact than the already huge one it had.
Chosen Song: Famous Last Words(The emotions man, THE EMOTIONS)
- Sum 41 – Chuck
Every song on this album is a masterpiece and just listening to it reminds me of why I will never be a famous musician. The songs are darker and I’m ok with that. Some bands stick to what they are good at and continue to write songs about being teenagers well after they should have stopped, but with this album Sum 41 proved they had a lot more to give and this was probably the turning point of their careers. YOU CAN BE THE SAME BAND AND GROW UP AT THE SAME TIME.
Chosen Song: Some Say(I may have listened to this song on repeat for 2 weeks once. Maybe)
- Green Day – American Idiot
Was there ever any doubt of what would be number one really? Green Day formed part of the pop-punk resurgence during the 90s and then they did it again! This album tested every boundary it had and then some, every song is an opera and my god I will stay until the end of the show. From the first line of the first song to the last like of the last song you are kept on the edge of your seat and the album is simply unrivalled. Every hair on my body stands up when I listen to this album. The one great tragedy with this album is that I can’t forget it and then listen to it again.
