Elles Bailey Releases Her Heartfelt Cover of ‘I Remember Everything’ as a Single

Multi-award-winning chanteuse, and champion of women in music, Elles Bailey is delighted to release the latest super-smoky-voiced single from her 16-track covers album, ‘Ain’t Nothing But’.

This single is Elles’ cover of the late, great John Prine’s retrospective, elegiac final song ‘I Remember Everything’. Rolling Stone described John’s original as “a gorgeous ballad where he looks back at snapshots from his life — both onstage and with his family — while trying to stay grounded in the present.” A deeply-moving song from a singer-songwriter much admired by Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and many more.

“I cannot truly put into words the impact that John Prine’s music has had on my life,” says Elles, who featured this poignant track as part of her ‘Ain’t Nothing But’ livestream series at White Noise Studios during the Summer of 2020. Elles’ recently released, award-nominated album ‘Ain’t Nothing But’ was recorded live from these shows.

The video of that performance was included by Americana Music Association UK in its first virtual AmericanaFest UK, at the end of January 2021 as part of their John Prine Tribute. The AMA UK board wanted to recognise the importance of John Prine’s writing in shaping this genre to what it is today and as part of the Americana Awards 2021, John was honoured with ‘The Songwriter Legacy Award’ received by his wife Fiona, on his behalf.

“I was so honoured that my version of ‘I Remember Everything’ was included in the John Prine Tribute Show for AmericanaFest UK. I have made it no secret how deep my admiration and awe for John’s writing runs, so to be involved alongside so many incredible acts — like Billy Bragg, Ida Mae, and John’s sons — is an experience I will treasure forever. I am delighted to say that the recording (featuring Joe Wilkins and Phil King) is out now.”

Reflecting on the significance of John Prine and his eloquent swansong, Elles says, “’I Remember Everything’ is the last song John recorded. It was released posthumously after he left us in April 2020. John, for me, has always made the mundane magical: he makes you feel like he’s your best friend even though you have never met. This song sums up everything about John Prine that makes him one of the most talented writers to have walked this Earth. I will be forever grateful to have shared the same air as him: to have lived when he lived and to have learned from his genius.”
