Talco – 10 Years – Live In Iruna
15th July 2014I’ve fairly eclectic music tastes. Yes, my main passions are thrash and death metal, but I’m not adverse to a bit of prog rock, hiphip, or even ska. Which is why I was thrilled when I received a package from the very cool Jacho at Destiny Records containing the latest album from Italian ska punk band, Talco.
Talco have been going since 2004, and during that time have released 5 studio albums and have built an enthusiastic following in mainland Europe. Musically the group combines the horns and rhythms of ska-punk with Italian folk music. The band’s lyrics reflect their support for left-wing politics and often include anti-fascist, anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist themes.
10 Years is a 22 track live album, recorded in November 2013, that comes with a bonus DVD containing a documentary about the band, interviews with the band, and the live shows. The recording quality is first class and as with any decent live album I found myself wishing I’d been there in the crowd to be part of such an amazing gig.
The fact that the songs are in Italian is almost irrelevant – the band thrive on playing live and that really comes across in their passion and enthusiasm as they play these 22 tracks, and I found myself caught up in it even though I couldn’t understand the lyrics.
If you’re a fan of ska music, live albums, or are looking to listen to something a bit different, then this is definitely an album worth checking out !
