Thunderwar – The Birth of Thunder
12th February 2014Yesterday I woke to find an email in my inbox telling me to check out this Polish Death Metal band called Thunderwar with a link pointing me to download their debut EP. So in my tired state I downloaded it, put it on my phone, thre the trusty earphones in and gave it a listen. Fuck! I wasnt expecting the sounds of old school death metal (think bands like early Obituary, Morbid Angel etc and you wont be far wrong).
Opening track ‘Vimana (The Chariots in Heaven)‘ set the scene foe the pummeling you will receive for the remainder of the EP, nice chunky riffs, old school DM vocal style but with thrashy elememts thrown in for good measure also.
The next track ‘Shadows of Lindisfarne‘ continues where ‘Vimana‘ left off and provides some really nice blast beats also.
The 3rd track ‘The Birth of Thunder‘ is a really cool atmospheric track with soft guitar work. Although not usually found on a DM EP this is a really well executed and composed song and for me is a welcome addition to th EP.
The final track which is a bonus track ‘Eagle of Glory‘ picks you up out of your relaxed state that ‘The Birth Of Thunder‘ put you in and proceeds to kick 10 shades of shit out of you.
This is a really well produced EP, the band have self released this monster and the quality is right up there with the big players. I can’t wait to hear there forthcoming album. Watch this space for a review when that is released.
Score: 9 out of 10
